F1 teams to test titanium skid plates to reignite spark in series

Filed under: Motorsports , Mercedes-Benz , Ferrari , Racing The 2014 Formula One season opened with one overwhelming complaint – the cars didn’t sound right. It sapped the excitement, despite the fact that this season has seen a number of truly thrilling races ( Bahrain , Spain and Montreal all come to mind). Attempts have been made to restore some of the audible thrill of the cars, although efforts have remained unsuccessful.

Ferrari 250 GT California could be your day off for $8 million

Filed under: Classics , Convertible , Performance , Auctions , Ferrari Vintage Ferraris consistently top the list of the most expensive cars ever sold. In private treaty sales, the 250 GTO is king, but even at public auctions, it’s the horses that prance the highest. After the Mercedes W196 grand prix racer that set the world record this past July at nearly $30 million, the list of eight-figure sales is populated almost entirely by Ferraris: a 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder for $27.5 million, the pair of ’57 Testa Rossas that sold separately a few years ago for $17 and $13 million apiece, the 250 LM recently went for over $14 million and the 250 GT SWB California Spider that sold in 2008 for $11 million.

James Glickenhaus teases sleek SCG 003 supercar

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Videos , Ferrari , Racing He may not have known it at the time, but James Glickenhaus started a small revolution when he commissioned Pininfarina to turn his Ferrari Enzo into a tribute to the legendary 330 P3/4. The P4/5 is what resulted, and Ferrari gave its blessing for it to wear the Prancing Horse emblem – something it hadn’t done for a coachbuilt custom in decades. Ferrari return to Le Mans looking more likely?

Filed under: Motorsports , Ferrari , Rumormill , Racing Statements made by Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo may indicate that the Italian brand could return to a form of racing it’s been absent from for 40 years – prototype racing. That’s right, LMP1 could see a factory Ferrari team for the first time since 1973, if a report from ESPN F1 is to be believed. “We have won with the 458 GTE , but I also quite like the idea of racing at Le Mans in the highest category: who knows, maybe one day we can return and win, say thanks and come home,” Montezemolo said.

2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Ferrari , First Drives Where the current roadgoing Ferrari coupe with its rear-mounted V8 can go beyond this Speciale edition, I don’t know. The 458 Italia and Spider already hold a very dear place in the hearts of anyone who has driven them on a sunny day over great roads or tracks, and I was pretty sure nothing could beat the heady sensory combo presented in the 458 Spider when I first drove it back in 2011 . I may have to change my opinion now.

2014 Ferrari FF

Filed under: Performance , Hatchback , Ferrari , Luxury , Quick Spins Ferrari announced a panoramic roof option for its all-wheel drive FF at the 2012 Paris Motor Show , promising the new full-length glass panel would offer its well-heeled clientele “a genuine open-air driving feeling, while providing thermal and acoustic insulation.” That statement was intriguing, as my experience with glass roofs usually ends abruptly after I close the opaque shade – as a Southern Californian, I always find tinted glass panels too hot during the day and too cold at night. While the FF I reviewed in August was fitted with a solid aluminum roof, I was fortunate to catch up with a brand-new silver Ferrari FF (it only had about 160 miles on the odometer) with the optional panoramic roof (a $17,666 upgrade) at the Formula One race at Circuit of the Americas just last month. It was my lucky day, as I was about to spend about six hours with the four-place Italian, blissfully enjoying it during the warm day until long after the sun had set on the Texas horizon
