Ferrari 250 GTO heading to The Quail with no reserve

Barrett-Jackson 2014: Michael Schumacher’s 1998 Ferrari F300 earns round of applause, $1.7m bid [w/video]

Filed under: Motorsports , Auctions , Ferrari , Celebrities , Racing There isn’t much in the world that can aurally match the screeching wail of a Formula 1 car at redline. We obviously can’t say whether or not the showmanship of starting this 1998 Ferrari F300 in front of the assembled masses at Barrett-Jackson and slowly taking it up to its 18,000-rpm redline had any effect on bidders, but it did, at the very least, result in a round of applause. This ’98 Ferrari F300 was driven 38 times by Michael Schumacher , and there was another round of applause for the driver, who’s currently in a medically induced coma and listed in stable condition after a skiing accident

Ferrari 250 GT California could be your day off for $8 million

Filed under: Classics , Convertible , Performance , Auctions , Ferrari Vintage Ferraris consistently top the list of the most expensive cars ever sold. In private treaty sales, the 250 GTO is king, but even at public auctions, it’s the horses that prance the highest. After the Mercedes W196 grand prix racer that set the world record this past July at nearly $30 million, the list of eight-figure sales is populated almost entirely by Ferraris: a 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder for $27.5 million, the pair of ’57 Testa Rossas that sold separately a few years ago for $17 and $13 million apiece, the 250 LM recently went for over $14 million and the 250 GT SWB California Spider that sold in 2008 for $11 million.

Ferrari vs. Ferrari: Cut convertibles unloved by collectors?

Filed under: Classics , Auctions , Ferrari The New York Times’ Wheels blog has a really interesting story on a pair of Ferraris that are set to be auctioned off in Monterey during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance . While the two cars are similar on the surface, their differing histories and Ferrari’s attitude towards one of them has led to a sort of experimental auction process. On the one hand, we have one of ten 1967 275 GTB/4 NART Spiders , in the classic Rosso Corsa and appearing at RM Auctions and seen above.
