2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Ferrari , First Drives Where the current roadgoing Ferrari coupe with its rear-mounted V8 can go beyond this Speciale edition, I don’t know. The 458 Italia and Spider already hold a very dear place in the hearts of anyone who has driven them on a sunny day over great roads or tracks, and I was pretty sure nothing could beat the heady sensory combo presented in the 458 Spider when I first drove it back in 2011 . I may have to change my opinion now.

2014 Ferrari FF

Filed under: Performance , Hatchback , Ferrari , Luxury , Quick Spins Ferrari announced a panoramic roof option for its all-wheel drive FF at the 2012 Paris Motor Show , promising the new full-length glass panel would offer its well-heeled clientele “a genuine open-air driving feeling, while providing thermal and acoustic insulation.” That statement was intriguing, as my experience with glass roofs usually ends abruptly after I close the opaque shade – as a Southern Californian, I always find tinted glass panels too hot during the day and too cold at night. While the FF I reviewed in August was fitted with a solid aluminum roof, I was fortunate to catch up with a brand-new silver Ferrari FF (it only had about 160 miles on the odometer) with the optional panoramic roof (a $17,666 upgrade) at the Formula One race at Circuit of the Americas just last month. It was my lucky day, as I was about to spend about six hours with the four-place Italian, blissfully enjoying it during the warm day until long after the sun had set on the Texas horizon

LaFerrari testing with turbo V6 F1 engine?

Filed under: Spy Photos , Coupe , Performance , Videos , Ferrari , Racing If Ford went and tested a NASCAR engine in a production Ford Fusion , it’d just be silly. Ferrari testing its new 1.6-liter, turbocharged V6 Formula One engine in a LaFerrari hypercar is not silly – it’s excellent.

How not to unload the 1 of 1 Ferrari P4/5 Competizione from a trailer

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Videos , Ferrari , Racing Believe it or not, unloading a car from a transport vehicle is a delicate science. It’s alarmingly easy to damage a car in the tight, elevated confines of a dedicated car hauler, but as these gentlemen at the Monterey car week found out, even getting a car off a flatbed comes with its own unique set of challenges

This is what it’s like to drive Magnum PI’s Ferrari 308

Filed under: Classics , Convertible , Coupe , Performance , Videos , Ferrari , Celebrities , Specialty In the pantheon of 80s pop culture, few cars have such provenance as the Ferrari 308 . Sure, vehicular icons like the DeLorean and Pontiac Trans Am (especially in time machine and KITT guise) made us swoon back in the day, but there’s something about the bright red Italian that makes it stand out; perhaps it is the 308’s performance credibility, at least when compared to other memorable cars of its ilk. Our fondness for Magnum PI’s Ferrari 308 is shared by Oscar Verdugo, who’s featured in the video you’ll see below.

Ferrari patent suggests one-off SP FFX

Ferrari FF coupe plans found in European patent application

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Europe , Ferrari , Design/Style , Luxury The FF is quite a departure for Ferrari – it’s the company’s first hatchback and all-wheel-drive vehicle – so it isn’t surprising that it rubs some people the wrong way, even if the car itself is very good. Well, judging from these patent drawings of what looks like a FF coupe filed with the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM), Ferrari has plans to build one. We’re not sure if Ferrari is planning a production run, however, and it’s very possible this is a one-off special being built for a very rich customer, a la Eric Clapton and his 458 Italia .

Motor Trend hits Laguna Seca with Ferrari F12, Chevy Corvette, Porsche 911

Filed under: Motorsports , Coupe , Performance , Videos , Chevrolet , Porsche , Ferrari According to the crew at Motor Trend , we should think of the video below “as an addendum to Best Driver’s Car,” a test the magazine put together that elevated the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S above all others in the category of driving joy. It seems the brand-new 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray wasn’t able to take part in the magazine’s official test, and neither was the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta . And so Motor Trend did the only logical thing: It procured both the ‘Vette and Prancing Horse as soon as it could, and put them both on track with the Driver’s Car-winning 911.

Twin LaFerraris roar around Fiorano

So far as we know, this is the first time we’ve had an unadulterated listen – outside of the car , that is – to the latest Ferrari hypercar when it’s being ran hard.

Ferrari 458 Speciale is our Frankfurt fantasy [w/video]

Filed under: Frankfurt Motor Show , Coupe , Performance , Ferrari , Racing This is the Ferrari 458 Speciale , and while its name might underwhelm, its performance and lineage more than make up for it. The successor to the proud line of hot, higher-performance, mid-engined Ferraris like the 360 Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia , the 458 Speciale is blessed with a 596-horsepower, 4.5-liter V8 and the ability to skip to 62 miles per hour in three seconds. It also comes with a not-so-subtle racing stripe, which we like

Filed under: Car Buying , Classics , Performance , Auctions , Jaguar , Mercedes-Benz , Ferrari , Luxury , Racing RM Auctions is one of several houses holding auctions during the Monterey weekend, and Friday night’s festivities got quite pricey. Seven-figure vehicles were not at all uncommon during the first day of the two-day event, with the 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Spider, seen above, crossing the block for $9,075,000. Other big earners included a pair of rare Ferraris, a 1950 166 MM Barchetta and a 1955 750 Monza Spider , which took $3,080,000 and $4,070,000, respectively.

2013 Ferrari FF [w/video]

Filed under: Performance , Hatchback , Ferrari , New Car Reviews The World’s Fastest Four-Passenger is Frickin’ Fabulous “I miss my mommy.” Those frightened words floated from the mouth of a five-year-old boy strapped snugly into a booster seat in the backseat of the Ferrari FF I was piloting. Moments earlier, his father had allowed me to take him, and his two brothers, for their first ride in a supercar, and I had apparently failed miserably. I craned my neck and moved slightly to the right, in an attempt to see him in the rearview mirror, before I asked with a cautionary tone, “What did you just say?” My mind raced during the next few seconds of silence.

Ferrari chairman ticked off by Alonso

Filed under: Motorsports , Ferrari , Racing Luca Cordero di Montezemolo does not strike us as the kind of person we’d want to cross. We imagine the Chairman of Ferrari as sort of like an automotive Don Corleone, a thought that is further confirmed when we hear about the aftermath of last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso made some unsubstantiated remarks that have angered his team, with The Daily Mail reporting that when asked after the race what he wanted for his birthday, the Spaniard responded “Someone else’s car.” And while no one seems to know exactly what was said, it was enough to prompt a personal phone call from the boss of Ferrari on Alonso’s birthday for a dressing down

Ferrari 458 Scuderia to be unveiled in Frankfurt?

Filed under: Frankfurt Motor Show , Motorsports , Coupe , Performance , Ferrari , Rumormill , Racing We’re heavy on the speculative side with this, but Auto Express is saying that “Rumours of Ferrari 458 Scuderia emerge, with possible debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.” To be clear, that’s the possible debut of a car that is still only a rumor, and we’re not sure it will be called “Scuderia,” either – remember, the track-day 360 was the Challenge Stradale. Admittedly, the rumor of its existence is strong and there is plenty of precedent: Ferrari has introduced some model or variant of its mid-engined V8 sports car at the last three Frankfurt Motor Shows.

Ferrari looking to become even more exclusive

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , China , Europe , Plants/Manufacturing , Ferrari , Middle East While most automakers are clawing and scratching for every possible sale, it sounds like Ferrari is content in losing a few potential customers in the name of better exclusivity and higher profits. Autocar reports that Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo recently stated that the Italian automaker hopes to sell fewer than 7,000 units globally in 2013 compared to last year’s tally of 7,318.
