Race Recap: 2014 Singapore Grand Prix is back-to-front

Filed under: Motorsports , Infiniti , Mercedes-Benz , Ferrari , Racing , McLaren To paraphrase Guy Fawkes V for Vendetta , ‘Remember, remember the twenty-first of September.’ That’s the day the 2014 Formula One Championship took another big turn – and at one of the year’s least interesting races, traditionally – putting Lewis Hamilton back at the top of the standings. Not only that, it did so by borrowing the template from the British Grand Prix this year: put Hamilton in front, retire Nico Rosberg

Race Recap: 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix a thrilling wet mess

Filed under: Motorsports , Europe , Infiniti , Mercedes-Benz , Ferrari , Racing , McLaren Three Free Practice sessions left us thinking Lewis Hamilton looked good to claim another victory for Mercedes AMG Petronas and close up the Driver’s World Championship race, but the first qualifying session for the 2014 Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix threw out that script. A fuel leak in Q1 set Hamilton’s car aflame and he never set a time

Will this 1966 Ferrari three-seater surpass $20M at Pebble Beach auction?

Filed under: Classics , Coupe , Performance , Auctions , Ferrari , Luxury With a week of lavish automotive events coming up centered around the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August, some of the highest profile auto auctions in the world are about to take place. Hearing about Ferrari Testa Rossas and 250 GTOs going for tens of millions of dollars during these events is commonplace, but Gooding & Company is bringing a unique Prancing Horse to sell in California that could be a record-breaker for the company. The car in question is the drop-dead gorgeous 1966 Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta Speciale with just 7,900 kilometers (4,910 miles) on the clock that’s pictured above, and it checks all of the boxes to make it incredibly desirable.

Celebrating the Ferrari F40 and the man who raced it

Filed under: Motorsports , Classics , Coupe , Performance , Videos , Ferrari , UK , Racing The Ferrari F40 has become one of the iconic cars of the last 50 years. It presaged the supercars of the future with its extensive use of carbon fiber and turbocharged engine, but it was also old school with no traction control, stability control or even anti-lock supervision to save the driver if they got in over their head. In its latest video, XCar Films takes a look at the F40 through the lens of a man in the UK who specializes in keeping them on the road and occasionally races these quintessential sports cars

F1 teams to test titanium skid plates to reignite spark in series

Filed under: Motorsports , Mercedes-Benz , Ferrari , Racing The 2014 Formula One season opened with one overwhelming complaint – the cars didn’t sound right. It sapped the excitement, despite the fact that this season has seen a number of truly thrilling races ( Bahrain , Spain and Montreal all come to mind). Attempts have been made to restore some of the audible thrill of the cars, although efforts have remained unsuccessful

Ferrari launches F14 T and yet another Formula One nose

Filed under: Motorsports , Ferrari , Racing Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo said of the 2014 Formula One season, “It’s time to win.” This is the chassis that’s meant to do it, and it is also Exhibit C in this wild, function-over-form F1 pre-season: the Ferrari F14 T. The low, trunk-like snout is another imagining of the year’s regulations, after the probing proboscides found on the McLaren and in the image of the coming Williams . The public name of the chassis internally called 665 was chosen by Ferrari’s social media fans, F14 T referring to the brand, the year and the turbocharged powerplant, not the McDonnell-Douglas F14 Tomcat.

James Glickenhaus teases sleek SCG 003 supercar

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Videos , Ferrari , Racing He may not have known it at the time, but James Glickenhaus started a small revolution when he commissioned Pininfarina to turn his Ferrari Enzo into a tribute to the legendary 330 P3/4. The P4/5 is what resulted, and Ferrari gave its blessing for it to wear the Prancing Horse emblem – something it hadn’t done for a coachbuilt custom in decades. A slew of rebodied Ferraris followed, prompting the factory to launch its own coachbuilding division

Ferrari return to Le Mans looking more likely?

Filed under: Motorsports , Ferrari , Rumormill , Racing Statements made by Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo may indicate that the Italian brand could return to a form of racing it’s been absent from for 40 years – prototype racing. That’s right, LMP1 could see a factory Ferrari team for the first time since 1973, if a report from ESPN F1 is to be believed. “We have won with the 458 GTE , but I also quite like the idea of racing at Le Mans in the highest category: who knows, maybe one day we can return and win, say thanks and come home,” Montezemolo said.

1964 Ferrari 250 LM expected to net $12-15 million at RM’s NY auction

Filed under: Classics , Auctions , Ferrari , Racing If you’re one of the very fortunate souls that has $12 to $15 million burning a very large hole in your pocket, we’ve found the perfect way to liberate yourself from the burden of so much money – buy this Ferrari , which is being put up for auction. It’s a supremely rare Ferrari 250 LM, the 24th member of a 32-car run, that rolled off the assembly line on what we imagine was a brilliant, sunny Italian summer’s day in July of 1964. Officially known as Chassis 6107, this 250 LM is rare because unlike its brothers, it wasn’t originally bought to be a race car

Tax The Rich returns with reckless driving in a Ferrari 288 GTO

Filed under: Classics , Coupe , Videos , Ferrari , Racing Tax The Rich , the YouTube channel that exists mainly to terrorize ultra-rare, ultra-expensive cars like the Jaguar XJ220 , Ferrari Enzo and Rolls-Royce Phantom , has come out with its first video in two months, starring one of the rarest Ferraris of the past 40 years – the 288 GTO . Now, by Tax The Rich standards, its treatment of the 288 is better than what the Enzo or the Rolls (especially) got in their videos. The most cringe-worthy parts are in the very beginning, before transitioning to actual roads (yes, we know the 288 was originally meant as a Group B rally car, but that makes zipping about on grass and dirt in a very rare Ferrari no less difficult to watch)

How not to unload the 1 of 1 Ferrari P4/5 Competizione from a trailer

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Videos , Ferrari , Racing Believe it or not, unloading a car from a transport vehicle is a delicate science. It’s alarmingly easy to damage a car in the tight, elevated confines of a dedicated car hauler, but as these gentlemen at the Monterey car week found out, even getting a car off a flatbed comes with its own unique set of challenges

Ferrari 250 GTO may have set new sale record at $52M

Filed under: Car Buying , Motorsports , Classics , Coupe , Performance , Ferrari , Racing Records are made to be broken, and it seems that one may have just been snapped again. An Italian website is reporting that a Ferrari 250 GTO , owned by American collector Paul Pappalardo, recently sold for $52 million . Now, this is far from confirmed – Pappalardo responded to questions about the sale saying, “I do not confirm these things, I have no comment about!” – and if it’s a private sale, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever know the exact amount of the transaction

Twin LaFerraris roar around Fiorano

Filed under: Motorsports , Coupe , Hybrid , Performance , Videos , Ferrari , Racing What could possibly be better than a Ferrari LaFerrari running at full clip on the Italian brand’s Fiorano test track? The answer is obviously two LaFerraris, both doing hot laps. So far as we know, this is the first time we’ve had an unadulterated listen – outside of the car , that is – to the latest Ferrari hypercar when it’s being ran hard.

Seven-figure cars highlight day one of RM’s Monterey auction

Filed under: Car Buying , Classics , Performance , Auctions , Jaguar , Mercedes-Benz , Ferrari , Luxury , Racing RM Auctions is one of several houses holding auctions during the Monterey weekend, and Friday night’s festivities got quite pricey. Seven-figure vehicles were not at all uncommon during the first day of the two-day event, with the 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Spider, seen above, crossing the block for $9,075,000. Other big earners included a pair of rare Ferraris, a 1950 166 MM Barchetta and a 1955 750 Monza Spider , which took $3,080,000 and $4,070,000, respectively.

Ferrari chairman ticked off by Alonso

Filed under: Motorsports , Ferrari , Racing Luca Cordero di Montezemolo does not strike us as the kind of person we’d want to cross. We imagine the Chairman of Ferrari as sort of like an automotive Don Corleone, a thought that is further confirmed when we hear about the aftermath of last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso made some unsubstantiated remarks that have angered his team, with The Daily Mail reporting that when asked after the race what he wanted for his birthday, the Spaniard responded “Someone else’s car.” And while no one seems to know exactly what was said, it was enough to prompt a personal phone call from the boss of Ferrari on Alonso’s birthday for a dressing down

Ferrari 458 Scuderia to be unveiled in Frankfurt?

Filed under: Frankfurt Motor Show , Motorsports , Coupe , Performance , Ferrari , Rumormill , Racing We’re heavy on the speculative side with this, but Auto Express is saying that “Rumours of Ferrari 458 Scuderia emerge, with possible debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.” To be clear, that’s the possible debut of a car that is still only a rumor, and we’re not sure it will be called “Scuderia,” either – remember, the track-day 360 was the Challenge Stradale. Admittedly, the rumor of its existence is strong and there is plenty of precedent: Ferrari has introduced some model or variant of its mid-engined V8 sports car at the last three Frankfurt Motor Shows.

We’re at the track now as a guest of Audi and plan to stay through the evening, and even we haven’t been able to find out what caused the accident – the only video is from just after the incident, and beyond the statement from ACO there’s been no more news.
