What we have here is the Ferrari 458 Speciale – the successor to the 360 Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia, and the hard-core version of the 458 Italia

Ferrari vs. Ferrari: Cut convertibles unloved by collectors?

Filed under: Classics , Auctions , Ferrari The New York Times’ Wheels blog has a really interesting story on a pair of Ferraris that are set to be auctioned off in Monterey during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance . While the two cars are similar on the surface, their differing histories and Ferrari’s attitude towards one of them has led to a sort of experimental auction process. On the one hand, we have one of ten 1967 275 GTB/4 NART Spiders , in the classic Rosso Corsa and appearing at RM Auctions and seen above.

Ferrari 458 Scuderia to be unveiled in Frankfurt?

Filed under: Frankfurt Motor Show , Motorsports , Coupe , Performance , Ferrari , Rumormill , Racing We’re heavy on the speculative side with this, but Auto Express is saying that “Rumours of Ferrari 458 Scuderia emerge, with possible debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.” To be clear, that’s the possible debut of a car that is still only a rumor, and we’re not sure it will be called “Scuderia,” either – remember, the track-day 360 was the Challenge Stradale. Admittedly, the rumor of its existence is strong and there is plenty of precedent: Ferrari has introduced some model or variant of its mid-engined V8 sports car at the last three Frankfurt Motor Shows.

Fernando Alonso gives German TV interview driving Ferrari F12 at the Nordschleife

Filed under: Motorsports , Coupe , Performance , Europe , Videos , Ferrari , Celebrities , Luxury Fernando Alonso gave a wide-ranging interview to German television station RTL, the Spanish driver and German interviewer conducting the session in Italian, driving a special Italian car on very special German track. Among many answers – from the industriousness of his native Ovideo, Spain to where he relaxes – Alonso gives Ferrari an eight out of ten for the season, admitting they don’t have the fastest car but they have a complete car, and refuses to give himself a number, only saying that he is more complete as well than when he first entered. Beyond the normal-guy persona and wealth of topics, the 10-minute interview is neat for being able to watch Alonso hurl the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta over and around kerbs while he’s answering questions

Ferrari California replica from Ferris Bueller is so choice

Filed under: Classics , Auctions , Ferrari , TV/Movies We like car auctions well enough, but often the high-end affairs are a bit too much like outdoor museums – very beautiful and very cold, and you’re not allowed to touch anything. A perfect case in point is the upcoming Mecum auction during the 2013 Pebble Beach weekend, which will feature the legendary replica Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder used in none other than Ferris Bueller’s Day Off . Only three were made.

These are two Ferrari design studies that led to the LaFerrari

Filed under: Concept Cars , Coupe , Performance , Videos , Ferrari , Design/Style , Luxury Ferrari apparently worked through nine design concepts for its LaFerrari supercar recently shown at the Geneva Motor Show , and has put two of them on display at its museum in Maranello, Italy. Both from 2011, the Manta (pictured) is harder edged and looks closest to the finished product. The other, the Tensostruttura, is much more fluid and looks like it probably came from the past or the future, not so much the present.

Filed under: Motorsports , Audi , Mercedes-Benz , Ferrari , Australia , Racing For the last two years, Audi has won what’s called “The ultimate Aussie endurance race,” the Bathurst 12-Hour event at Mt. Erebus Motorsport, owned by property developer Betty Klimenko, is 18 months old.
